This section deals with the emulation of specific games in Project64. Games are listed in alphabetical order like this:
(U) GoodName / (E) GoodName / (J) GoodName (of course not all games have three regions with different names!)
For help with how to play a game, please visit a site like gamefaqs.com since playing games is not our business ;) Only games with their own FAQs or issues are listed here, which generally means the more popular games. Please use the FAQs or Known Issues sections for more general information. All screenshots made with Project64, naturally ;)

007 - The World Is Not Enough
games with audio problems (MuysX) The following games use MusyX audio compression technology and are known to have issues - typically samples sound very garbled/glitchy/unpleasant or are missing, whilst other components of sound (e.g. background music) may be unaffected. We believe this is due to timing being innacurate in the core.- 007 - The World is Not Enough
- Elmo's Letter Adventure
- Elmo's Number Journey
- Gauntlet Legends
- Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine
- NBA Showtime - NBA on NBC
- Polaris Sno Cross
- Resident Evil 2 / Bio Hazard 2
- Rugrats in Paris - The Movie
- San Francisco Rush 2049
- Star Wars - Rogue Squadron
- Star Wars Episode I - Battle for Naboo
There is no fix for these issues other than using a 3rd party audio plugin with its own sync method, OR using a different emulator (core).
As a workaround, you may be able to turn off the affected part of the sound (e.g. the speech) in the game's options and enable subtitles, if the option is available e.g. 007 - The World is Not Enough.
-
1080 Snowboarding
Issues(plugin) Jabo Direct3D (E) region ROM only: screen at end of first two levels needs Copy Framebuffer to RDRAM enabled to show contents. If you want to see it emulated correctly without slowdown use the (JU) region ROM.
-
All-Star Baseball 2000
random hanging in some games can be worked around using pause Affected games seem to randomly hang, but can be easily unpaused by using the PAUSE/RESUME item under System menu (shortcut key F2). press it twice.
-
All-Star Baseball 2001
random hanging in some games can be worked around using pause Affected games seem to randomly hang, but can be easily unpaused by using the PAUSE/RESUME item under System menu (shortcut key F2). press it twice.
-

Issues (core) - this game may slow down if rumble used - if affected, disable rumble (observed by Gent with Jabo's input)
- this game may slow down if rumble used - if affected, disable rumble (observed by Gent with Jabo's input)
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - Classic Asteroids bonus game not playable on included plugins - black screen. Try a 3rd party video plugin.
rumble causes some games to slow down strangely, if rumble is enabled sometimes it causes slowdown. don't know cause yet
Known affected games: Asteroids Hyper, Body Harvest (N-Rage plugin only)
-
Banjo-Kazooie
Issues(core) game has some timing issues:- don't disable system speed limiter in this game, won't run smooth, may hang. if you get occasional pauses e.g. for a few seconds every minute or so, try enabling Sync game to Audio.
- introduction music is out of sync with the video. If this bothers you, use Sync game to Audio.
Issues(plugin) Jabo Direct3D jigsaw transition effect needs Copy framebuffer to RDRAM.
timing problems, games too fast Some games have timing problems in the core that make them run too fast. You can often slow these games down to the correct speed by using the Sync game to Audio option.
Known affected games: Ridge Racer 64, Wipeout64 and others
-
Banjo-Tooie
games broken or worse in v1.6 video plugin vs. v1.5.2 You may get better results using the v1.5.2 plugin (included with v1.6) for these games.
Issues (core) - game occasionally hangs for many users, cause currently unknown. when this happens the application does not hang, just the game - so quick save often with f5, then if game hangs, press F1 to reset (then the save slot number) then F7 to load. we're still investigating this issue.
- pause when changing between areas, quite long up to about 3 seconds - this happens on the real system too.
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - puzzle pieces are glitchy, some coloured spots
timing problems, games too fast Some games have timing problems in the core that make them run too fast. You can often slow these games down to the correct speed by using the Sync game to Audio option.
Known affected games: Ridge Racer 64, Wipeout64 and others
-
Beetle Adventure Racing
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D some problems with v1.6 plugin- cars too dark
- sky not correct
some problems with v1.5 plugin:
- some effects missing
problems with both plugins:
- missing menu transition effect
take which you prefer or try a 3rd party plugin.
-
Body Harvest
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - HUD problems: map, speedometer pointer, etc. no fix for this other than using a different video plugin.
random hanging in some games can be worked around using pause Affected games seem to randomly hang, but can be easily unpaused by using the PAUSE/RESUME item under System menu (shortcut key F2). press it twice.
rumble causes some games to slow down strangely, if rumble is enabled sometimes it causes slowdown. don't know cause yet
Known affected games: Asteroids Hyper, Body Harvest (N-Rage plugin only)
-
Bomberman 64
Issues (core) - intro may freeze halfway through, just reset the ROM (shortcut F1) and go to the Select File screen and use File 1.
-
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - blur effects e.g. in boss fights, intro may need Copy Framebuffer to RDRAM for correct display (but not recommend due to slowdown).
- parts of the intro bad
- gold cards are not displayed correctly
- some of the custom Bomberman screens are glitchy
- missing green glow on selected level (Clements)
- when you press Start to select your game type, the background should darken, but it doesn't (Clements)
- when you select a file, there should be a green rectangle behind your data but it's missing (Clements)
-
Bomberman Hero
Issues (core) - If you have a fast enough system, this game runs really smooth on CF 1
-
Chopper Attack
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - Objects in the game may dissapear if you load from a state save with the new pixel pipeline enabled. As a workaround, you can enable Legacy pixel pipeline, or avoid loading from states, or use a different video plugin.
- possible problem with sky?
-
Clay Fighter - Sculptor\'s Cut
-
Clay Fighter 63 1-3
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - HUD errors - blue bar drawn wrongly
-
Conker\'s Bad Fur Day
-
Cruis\'N USA
-
CyberTiger
Issues (core) - game hangs if you quit from in-game menu (press START when playing, then choose Quit, then confirm). No known solution, other than not selecting this option.
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - shadow is split into 4 parts. no fix, except use a 3rd party video plugin.
-
Disney\'s Tarzan
-
Donkey Kong 64
Issues (core) - geometry problems - polygons occasionally stick out of the main character for brief periods of time, apparently this is reduced by enabling Sync game to Audio or changing CF to 1 (possible timing issues remaining however.)
- some users report a level restarting(?), not something we've seen - if you have more info on this please report.
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - pause screen background is black (should be blur of last game screen)
- number pads should be transparent before they are stepped on, but they are always rendered solid.
- zipper scene transition effect missing
- thin bright line around top and left screen edges, more visible at some times.. resolution seems slightly out
- fade effect as items move into visible is missing, so items just pop up (distance that items are visible for my also be greater than real N64, not confirmed)
The triangles-occasionaly-sticking-out of main character problem is not a plugin issue - see Core issues.
- pause screen background is black (should be blur of last game screen)
-
Doom64
Q: Why is the game so dark? This game was very dark on the real N64, however it may be worse on the emulator because you're using it on a PC display. There are a few things you can do (most recommended solutions first):
- Turn brightness up in the in-game options (there is even a cheat included in PJ64 to move the brightness higher than the slider will normally go!)
- Adjust your display or graphics card brightness/gamma etc, using driver controls or a 3rd party utility like PowerStrip.
- Use the brightness slider in the 1.6 plugin (requires pixel shaders v1.4+, may cause other issues).
-
Dr. Mario 64
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - problems in several modes of the game - classic mode should work fine. no fix, try a 3rd party video plugin.
sprite edge problems Some games have problems with sprite edges not being rendered cleanly, particularly on e.g. HUD text.
- Do not enable Always use texture filter for these games.
- You may find prefer results with Force Alpha blending enabled, but this may have negative effects depending on the game and is not generally recommended.
-
Duke Nukem 64
depth/sprite depth problems in some games Some games have problems where sprites show through things that should block them. Sometimes using D3D transformation pipeline helps, but in many cases there is no fix for this other than using a 3rd party video plugin.
-
Earthworm Jim 3D
games broken or worse in v1.6 video plugin vs. v1.5.2 You may get better results using the v1.5.2 plugin (included with v1.6) for these games.
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - issue with transparency in v1.6 video plugin, can be using Force Alpha blending but that causes other issues (main character messed up), suggest you use v1.5.2 video plugin as workaround for these areas, if it bothers you.
-
Eikou no Saint Andrews
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - sky and background, various errors: Use Direct3D transformation pipeline and make sure you disable once you have finished playing the game
- taking a shot, player will be upside down! Also use Direct3D transformation pipeline for this
problems with the internal geometry pipeline in some games For some games you may get better results using Direct3D transformation pipeline. Note that the results may be video card dependant.
-
F-ZERO X
Issues (core) - saves get wiped on Protect Memory, but game is not entirely stable on Change Memory
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - horizon not correct
- minor colouring errors on cars (if they appear all black, see Questions)
Q: Why are all the 2d graphics missing? If you are using the v1.6 video plugin, check that you haven't enabled the option "adust aspect ratio to match yours".
Q: Why are the cars black? Your video card does not meet the minimum requirements.
Q: Why has my save disappeared? Update to the latest RDB. If you need a replacement save file, there's one on this site. Sorry for the trouble.
Q: Why is this game so slow fullscreen? This game seems to strain video hardware - you may wish to use a lower level of anisotropic filtering and/or anti-aliasing than you normally do.
-
Fushigi no Dungeon - Fuurai no Shiren 2
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - menu needs Copy Framebuffer to RDRAM for proper display
-
GoldenEye 007
high system requirements for some games Some games have unusually high system CPU requirements - e.g. 1.5 GHz or greater CPU recommended.
Known affected games: Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and others
missing sky in many Rare games Several games from the developer Rare use techniques to draw the sky which are very difficult to emulate correctly without hacks, therefore current versions of Jabo's video plugin do not render them at all.
Advanced info: As a side effect, sometimes a Direct3D clear mode is needed to prevent smearing where the sky would be.
Q: Why are somethings missing? (I have Radeon R200 core hardware) Radeon R200 core video cards (e.g. Radeon 8500 or 9200, not 9500+) have possible Full Scene Anti-Aliasing/internal geometry pipeline issue at some resolutions. We believe this is a driver problem. Suggest you disable FSAA OR use D3D transform pipeline as a workaround.
Q: Why do I get an "Access Violation" / Why does the video plugin crash? Try not using any cheat codes (disable all codes and reboot the ROM). Make sure framebuffer emulation (video plugin controls) is off.
Q: Why does game pause while changing guns/switching weapons? Some users report pausing/slowdown/stuttering while changing weapons in multiplayer games. We are still investigating this issue. May be host system related. No solution is known at this time sorry.
-
GT64 - Championship Edition
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D HUD problems: map, speedometer pointer, etc. no fix for this other than using a different video plugin.
random hanging in some games can be worked around using pause Affected games seem to randomly hang, but can be easily unpaused by using the PAUSE/RESUME item under System menu (shortcut key F2). press it twice.
-
Hey You, Pikachu!
Issues (plugin) No way to get voice input into this game - no plugin supports voice pak emulation at the time of writing. So not playable. Support does not look likely either as no other game uses this hardware accessory?
-
Hydro Thunder
sprite edge problems Some games have problems with sprite edges not being rendered cleanly, particularly on e.g. HUD text.
- Do not enable Always use texture filter for these games.
- You may find prefer results with Force Alpha blending enabled, but this may have negative effects depending on the game and is not generally recommended.
-
Jet Force Gemini
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D (all issues should be fixed in v1.6, if you know any issues please report on forum)
-
Kirby 64 - The Crystal Shards
Issues (core) - missing life meter (eggs) on HUD - we have heard from users that after the first boss the meter is displayed normally. Or the problem may come and go at different points in the game. Exact cause is uncertain, very likely something in the core. So play on and you might be fine, or you can try a different emulator (you can continue to use the same video plugin because it doesn't seem to be a video plugin issue).
Q: Why can I not move (up/down/left/right)? This game uses the (digital) d-pad, not the analogue stick that most games use. Configure input plugin accordingly.
-
Knockout Kings 2000
Issues (core) - Not stable on Recompiler, now set by RDB to interpreter cpu core, so runs very slow. Do not try to adjust ROM settings or the game will hang on load, and possibly hang your PC (Gent).
problems with the internal geometry pipeline in some games For some games you may get better results using Direct3D transformation pipeline. Note that the results may be video card dependant.
-
Legend of Zelda, The - Majora\'s Mask
-
Legend of Zelda, The - Ocarina of Time
"have not implemented RSP MF CP0 reg SP DRAM DMA address (1) Q: Why do I get this error? Do not use the RSP interpreter for this game (Advanced mode, RSP plugin configuration). the RSP recompiler is much faster anyway.
Issues (core) Error in Lost Woods:
If you enter this area as a child, go left until you see character playing pipe, stand on stump, then exit Lost Woods, you may get an UnHandled Opcode error (stops emulation). there is no reason to do this in the game, so suggest you avoid doing it - or you can change self-mod. code method to Change Memory as temporary workaround (need to reset ROM for core settings changes to take effect).Subscreen takes too long to load, this is being fixed by perm cheat.
SMCM not 100% reliable.
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D This game is almost perfect now, only a few known graphics issues remaining:
- Nintendo logo text in intro not quite drawn correctly, horizontal white line (very minor issue)
- Lens flare shows through objects where it should be hidden (visible in demo)
- Glitch on subscreen near end of game (fixed for 1.7)
- you may see a white flash when loading subscreen, possibly due to core, depends on system.
Q: How can I aim the hookshot, bow etc. properly? Please see: "How can I make Link walk using a keyboard?" as the issue is the same.
Q: How can I make Link walk using a keyboard? With the default input plugin, if you need to make Link walk, reduce the value on the range slider.
I suggest you use 'modifiers' in N-Rage's input plugin (included) with a keyboard or digital pad so you don't have to reconfigure the plugin each time. Please consult plugin documentation for further information.
Strongly advise users to get a controller with analogue sticks, it really gives a much better experience!
Q: Why does the background in houses / market etc. look very bad? This is the resolution of the real JPEG images on the N64 - the reason it looks worse on the emulator is that the rest of the game is now in a much higher resolution! Nothing you can do about this short of using a plugin that support retexturing and loading new high resolution textures in their place - or, running the game in a lower resolution like 640x480 (with high FSAA to reduce jaggies) reduces the disparity and looks good IMHO.
Q: Why is the fairy square? Your video hardware and/or drivers do not support the required blend mode - your system does not meet the minimum requirements.
Q: Why is the grass black etc.? Your video hardware and/or drivers do not support the required blend mode - your system does not meet the minimum requirements sorry.
-
Legend of Zelda, The - Ocarina of Time - Master Qu
Issues Issues are same as for Ocarina of Time , please refer to that page.
Q: How did this game come to exist? The dump for this game originated on the Zelda Bonus disk. The game was emulated via a special Nintendo-written emulator to work on the GameCube. This is why the game appears to refer to GameCube buttons rather than N64 buttons in the game. The game is however still N64 compatible and thus worked in PJ64 with little extra attention.
-
Mahjong Hourouki Classic
problems with the internal geometry pipeline in some games For some games you may get better results using Direct3D transformation pipeline. Note that the results may be video card dependant.
-
Mario Golf
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - Mini Golf mode: while you're moving, the graphics are fine, but when you hold still, the framebuffer is used, and then there's a problem that makes the yellow "walls" show through the ground and partly obscure the view.
-
Mario Kart 64
games broken or worse in v1.6 video plugin vs. v1.5.2 You may get better results using the v1.5.2 plugin (included with v1.6) for these games.
texture caching causing pauses/stalls/hangs in some games Affected games suffer occasional slowdown as textures are flushed, this may be unavoidable with the plugin in some sitations/on some hardware, if it's a severe problem suggest you try a 3rd party video plugin.
Why are my ghosts going crazy? I'm told theres a problem here which happens on the real N64 aswell (i.e. it's a bug in the game).
-
Mario Tennis
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - replays are glitchy
- resolution detection problems
- in D3D6 v1.5.2 plugin the following applies:
- Force Normal Blending helps with shadow issues
- Force Depth Enable for players
- in D3D8 v1.6 plugin the following applies:
- Force Alpha Blending helps with shadow issues
- D3D transform pipeline may be very much faster
- replays may look a bit better than in D3D6 v1.5.2
- resolution detection is worse e.g. on title screens than D3D6 v1.5.2
problems with the internal geometry pipeline in some games For some games you may get better results using Direct3D transformation pipeline. Note that the results may be video card dependant.
-
Mega Man 64
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - The "refractor piece" in the cutscene when you start a new game cannot be seen by default. Use legacy pixel pipeline to fix.
- The "refractor piece" in the cutscene when you start a new game cannot be seen by default. Use legacy pixel pipeline to fix.
-
Mickey's Speedway USA
Issues (core) Lights at start of race don't work. this doesn't seem to work in any emu AFAIK, probably a core issue.
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - framebuffer effect is used for intermissions e.g. at start of race, pause screen. this effect is missing - just shows black screen
- engine graphic does not change when selecting the difficulty level? (anyone have more info on this?)
-
Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits Volume 1
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D this game is composed of numerous mini games, some of which have problems and may not be playable:
- Spyhunter (high scores can't be seen (text is a bit garbled) and top screen flicker)
- Rootbeer Tapper (details unknown, please provide info!)
- Sinistar (details unknown, please provide info!)
-
Mischief Makers
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - missing text on minigame "Math Fun" makes this minigame unplayable
- the rock that chases you on level 4-1 is invisible. this makes the level harder. was visible in v1.5.2 video plugin
- masking effect on some levels (where most of the view is blacked out) doesn't show, this makes these levels easier
sprite edge problems Some games have problems with sprite edges not being rendered cleanly, particularly on e.g. HUD text.
- Do not enable Always use texture filter for these games.
- You may find prefer results with Force Alpha blending enabled, but this may have negative effects depending on the game and is not generally recommended.
-
Mission Impossible
Q: Why does (F) ROM hang when entering first level? The old [!] ROM was a bad dump (a mistake in GoodN64 for a long time). Please scan with the current GoodN64 and look for [!] tag in new filename to ensure your ROM is really a good dump!
-
Monopoly
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - needs Force Alpha Blending for correct shadows, otherwise shadows appear as a solid black block
- needs Force Alpha Blending for correct shadows, otherwise shadows appear as a solid black block
-
O.D.T
Issues (core) - (U) hangs on inventory screen, do not use this Region ROM. (We are not sure why yet, may not work on N64?)
- (E) seems to work OK on the core, except for an issue on the level4 boss: "On the Level 4 boss of ODT Region E do not pull switch 1, instead make him fall over twice and then pull switch 2 making him fall over again. Pull switch 3 making him fall over again and then pull switch 4 to make him fall once more to see a red arrow appear. Walk over to it and level will be finished although he has not been defeated. He should infact fall through the floor once you have pulled all the switches and that is your escape through the gap in the floor." (Gent)
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - not supported by Jabo's video plugin up to and including v1.6. You need to use a 3rd party video plugin. (support added in v1.7 beta)
-
Ogre Battle 64 - Person of Lordly Caliber
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - black backgrounds in battle mode
- missing silhouettes on hill in intro
Q: Why can I not progess to Map 6 or beyond? Apparently there was an error in GoodN64 for a long time that incorrectly identified a bad dump of this ROM as Good: [!] . Therefore, you need to redump this ROM yourself or obtain a newer copy and newer version of GoodN64.
-
Paper Mario
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - flicker - some areas of game exhibit moderate to severe flicker
- menu transitions effects are messed up, they are still usable however.
Q: How do I stop the flickering? You could try a 3rd party video plugin.
Q: Why does the game crash? Several users report crashes that were later traced to Cheat codes they were using - there are known problems with some cheat codes in this game (anyone know exactly which?), suggest not using cheats, or if already affected try turning them off reloading from a native save. Also verify your ROM of course.
-
Perfect Dark
high system requirements for some games Some games have unusually high system CPU requirements - e.g. 1.5 GHz or greater CPU recommended.
Known affected games: Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and others
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - resolution detection issue in v1.6, NTSC versions (U/J) only - black border at bottom. Can force resolution to fix but not recomended as game changes res. Game has numerous in game res/screen options, some are supported better than others.
- IR scanner not working.
- Camspy is functional but imperfect (missing fisheye FOV lens effect?)
- Xray is functional but has issues with character/textures (see below)
- Sky missing (general problem)
- Coronas/lens flares missing (e.g. in Lobby)
missing sky in many Rare games Several games from the developer Rare use techniques to draw the sky which are very difficult to emulate correctly without hacks, therefore current versions of Jabo's video plugin do not render them at all.
Advanced info: As a side effect, sometimes a Direct3D clear mode is needed to prevent smearing where the sky would be.
Q: Why does the campsy, night vision etc not work? Most effects work in v1.6 (see Known Issues for the remaining that don't).
Other problems you see are a result of your graphics card not meetin the minimum requirements.
-
PGA European Tour
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - HUD shot indicator needs Copy framebuffer to RDRAM for proper display.
-
Pilotwings 64
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - block objects: some objects in the game show as blocks of solid colour instead of the shape they should be. this doesn't exactly affect gameplay as far as we know but looks bad. nothing you can do about this other than use a 3rd party plugin.
- (E) region has rubbish around screen edge in menus, as workaround you can set D3D Clear Mode (video plugin advanced tab) to Always, but note this breaks viewing of pictures in other part of game - you will need to set back to default for those. recommend you use NTSC ROM (U/J), which is not affected.
-
Pocket Monsters Stadium
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - slowdown in places
Q: How do I upload/transfer a Gameboy ROM? There are two ways to do this, neither supported by our default configuration
- Using an Adaptoid, a Transfer Pak, the real Gameboy cartridge and the Adaptoid plugin
- using a 3rd party input plugin that supports import from Gameboy saves for this game.
Q: Why doesn't the control stick work? This game does not use the analogue stick, it uses the d-pad. Configure input plugin accordingly.
-
Pokemon Snap
Issues (core) - pictures of Pokemon Signs not recognised correctly? (Pokemon themselves are recognised OK in v1.6)
- pictures of Pokemon Signs not recognised correctly? (Pokemon themselves are recognised OK in v1.6)
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D -
PKMN Report may hang when pressing A. if affected, use Direct3D transformation pipeline.
- pictures in PKMN Album needs Copy framebuffer to RDRAM. Game will run slower, so disable every time you have finished with the album (yes, it's not ideal sorry).
-

- minor issues with menus
- slowdown in places

Quake 64
depth/sprite depth problems in some games Some games have problems where sprites show through things that should block them. Sometimes using D3D transformation pipeline helps, but in many cases there is no fix for this other than using a 3rd party video plugin.
Issues (plugin) Jabo Direct3D - depth problems, use D3D transformation pipeline as a workaround.
- flicker. no fix for this.
- multiplayer unusable, graphics errors for all players. no fix.
Note: all these errors should be fixable by a suitable 3rd party graphics plugin (we don't know which or even if one exists).
problems with the internal geometry pipeline in some games For some games you may get better results using Direct3D transformation pipeline. Note that the results may be video card dependant.

Quake II
depth/sprite depth problems in some games Some games have problems where sprites show through things that should block them. Sometimes using D3D transformation pipeline helps, but in many cases there is no fix for this other than using a 3rd party video plugin.
