We need an update!

Written by Jabo
Last updated Sunday, 03 February 2008

I realized a few weeks ago that I haven't filled out a blog for a while, even about things that aren't related necessarily to PJ. The comments section of the last blog is a mess, but there seems to be a mix of people that still believe in the project and others who think it's dead. So I thought I'd just drop a note on the blog to say hello and fill you in on some of the things I've been up to. If you haven't heard by now over the Christmas holiday I released a new version of Jnes, so that kept me busy for a few months working with the beta team for a few months to get that out the door.

Prior to that I was deeply involved in Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, and more recently I just finished Phantom Hourglass. These games were great I can honestly say Phantom Hourglass is my favorite handheld zelda, better than Link's Awakening if not just for the graphics. Twilight Princess was insanely fun as well, definitely my favorite zelda game since Ocarina of Time dare I say it.

I've also enjoyed Guitar Hero 3 as well on occasion, playing Poison on Medium is addictive. Anyway that's all I have for now, life is busy and hopefully we'll have more updates in 2008, there is always active discussions behind the scenes but not always blogs like this. Please be respectful of us, and each other if you choose to leave a comment, we welcome feedback. Also like to wish everyone a happy new year!

Well I hope you guys can update this soon, it seems the Crusin Games are having compatibility and Mapper errors going on, even though the games still work, they freeze up sometimes, I need to know if they will be supported anytime soon.

besides I figure some people needed to know about it.

What is it with this strange optimism? I know I'm not in the right position...but, he'll update when he wants. He doesn't owe any of us anything; there's this programming status called "on-hold." Is that illegal?

The time zilmar specified was one-third durable; it has been 0.5 years. I think it was right though to know what's been going on with Jabo, just not quite morally incorrect to decline sharing.

Hey, do you think a Mac version of project64 will ever be released? I find myself having to boot into windows all the time for this program cause it just works so well. I hope there's a possibility for this!

...
written by ShadowFX, February 04, 2008

Most of you fail to realise that Zilmar is man behind the core work of PJ64. He still hasn't returned because he is obviously still pre-occupied with his work. Not to break any joyful moments because of this update, but real updates haven't been made since June last year.

But like they said, the project has its ups and downs. We are currently in a long downtime.

I need play Nintendo DS game on Wii use HDTV on wall and help better than hand handle video system. smilies/smiley.gif

I think Project 64 1.7 will be on Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Vienna/Seven(2009 to 2010). I don't think Mac/Leapond OS maybe approve or not. I don't know about Linux maybe working or not. smilies/cool.gif

Peace!

written by Alan, February 04, 2008

Hey guys, congratulations and thank you for Project 64. It's good to see that you're taking things at a steady pace, not rushing development of PJ64 (assuming it's not a closed project).

I actually have a small request: how about a release with the (awesome) new icon(s) to replace the one that is default in v1.6?

All the best smilies/smiley.gif

Today I was playing Zelda:OOT Master Quest on a 57" TV in 1080i, 16:9, with a texture pack, fantastic sound, perfect controls and rumble w/ a Logitech gamepad...and well, it just doesn't get much better. I love this fantastic emulator and thank the coders for all their hard work and time. I miss updates and would really love to see this work continued. But if not, hey I'm still very grateful. Cheers! smilies/grin.gif

Just because you do not see or hear anything about the project does not mean nobody is doing anything. I've been busy creating cheats for the new addition to n64 unreleased (releases) 40 winks.

Great to see this fantastic game avalible and playing fantastic on 1.7 that is why i have been busy creating its cheat support.

Below you will see some of its support in action in the pic below.

I have been waiting for the longest time for a well done PJ64 to have online and even though I am not going to dismiss the work you guys have done I would like for you to verify what programming language this is made it so I can learn it and maybe help out with the project because to be honest I see that at as taking less time than waiting for 1.7 to become a public release. smilies/smiley.gif C right?

I know that may sound prickish but unfortunately it does seem to be reality. I understand you guys have actual lives and such but I just love this emulator and am so anxious for online support. smilies/smiley.gif

Anyway, to the guy who asked about the Mac...I doubt it but whats the point when you could just install Windows via VMWare? Just get VMWare and install it that way.

Dybbuk Atroxic, they may probably never release the current sourcecode. If you wanted to help, they did release this for version 1.4 of the emulator. (See Public Version > Downloads.)

I agree with Dybbuk Atroxic. You are smart to tell everything! smilies/cheesy.gif Mac can use VMWare to bring Windows XP in and running Project 64 program. I hope Project 64 1.7 will release soon around in March or later. smilies/smiley.gif

Don't need buy X360 Controller for PC. X360 Controller cost about $50.00 . Too much. We like cheap than high price. Try out. smilies/smiley.gif

the wired 360 controllers are only $40 and I personally think they are better overall because they are better for Microsoft pc games like halo if you like those pc games, as for emulation since neither are the original controller so neither one is better.

...
written by wes mcdaniel, February 09, 2008

360 is the best hands down! No better controller exists or will for some time. The MS drivers are kinda crappy, but the third party XBCD drivers are amazing. Even the third party Madcatz versions are tremendous build quality and have rubber injections. Logitech is simply junk that only lasts for about a year before the buttons start sticking and the analogue stick stops working correctly. All pc controllers are garbarge. Thank god for MS's answer to all that crap. And the PS3 controller is rickety, cheap crap and barely better than a PC gamepad. If anyone really cares about wanting the best and they do an once of reasearch, they'll find they're answer and it's nothing that Logitech makes. smilies/smiley.gif

...
written by i are me, February 10, 2008

these replies arent meant to be about controllers (anyway, i got given the x360 one for free, so i wont complain smilies/tongue.gif)
just wondering if an alternative to paypal is being looked at for donations, I was thinking Nochex might be a good idea - saw that CCleaner developers Piriform use it for donations, thought it might work for PJ64. searched their terms and conditions, and apart from saying "dont be illegal with us" etc, this was the only thing which might be a stumbling block:

'12.2.15 describe accurately on its website, including a full description of its trading name, address, telephone number and URL, what goods and services are being offered for sale, the price, the action which must be taken to make a purchase, the point at which a sale is completed, and details of delivery, shipping, returns and refund policies and comply at all times with any laws governing consumer and/or internet transactions (including the Distance Selling Regulations);'

One of the developers willing to put that info on the site? XD
Anyways perhaps email them and see what the deal is?

Wow, I not know that people report that Logitech controllers are not work. I saw on Bestbuy and EB game. I think Logitech is junk. Right?

Why not Xbox 360 wire or PS3 controller wire will work on Windows? Don't have driver. I see nothing on Google. No Xbox 360/PS3 Controller driver for Windows XP and Vista to keep update. I have no idea about X360 and PS3. Whoa

i are me: Other alternatives are being considered and sorry to all who are unable to be involved at this moment in time.

internet play:

sucks ... but how i would do it is just run the emulator on 1 machine and web-cam the image of the emulator to the other machine while taking input commands from the 2nd machine at the same time. the image quality could be blury on the 2nd machine and there would be some pretty serious lag ... but on a local network it wouldn't be so bad (but then what's the point right?)

how do you do it correctly? ... some weird syncing going on, i bet ... it's probably easier and better than my idea ... discuss?

...

my last message i tried to post never got posted ... what's up here? ...

implement a PJ64 video and sound recorder ... or just sound recorder

make PJ64 compile roms into stand-alone EXEs with the setting preserved ... that way we can put in the perfect settings and make them stick with each game ... maybe not a good idea.

make PJ64 record high scores on the PJ64 website ... maybe not possible.

what about ask-a-friend for help ... freeze a game and request remote assistance with beating about ... another silly idea?

how about some API's ... programmers might like that.

how about a whole content management system ... saving a game takes a snapshot and you can browse through the snapshots picking the save game you want ... maybe update some real-time web snap-in so people know what you're playing and how far you're progressing etc ... i don't know.

...
written by Tyler, March 23, 2008

i have to say, when i was using PJ64 years ago, it was revolutionary ... i mean, playing Smash Bros. on my PC was just amazing.

the sad thing is now that Smash Bros. Brawl is out, i now realize that this emulator is really starting to show it's age. even if this emulator is continued, it will be to support very aging games now ... this is now 2 long generations ago and in a couple years it will be 3 generations old (you don't hear people raving over Super Nintendo Emulation anymore ... it's been done to death).

too bad that today's games are becoming too complicated to emulate or else we would all be raving over GameCube emulation ... yet it seems too big of a challenge to be taken seriously. emulation is going down-hill ... boooo!!!

anyone still interested in N64 emulation, where else could it possibly go? ... Pj64 has done 95% in my books and that includes most games being done perfectly.

whatever 1.7 will do, it won't be as good as 1.6 for it's time. much the same as 1.6 won't be as good as 1.5 for it's time ... when 1.4 was out, i was having a great time ... i doubt i would seriously spend more than a few hours with 1.7 if it were released.

...
written by Iconoclast, March 23, 2008

You mean Project64 is going downhill, which, by the way, it is not.

A true emulation engineer does not trust what makes people happy.
If happiness is the cause, then not everybody will be happy.
This includes time: Researching emulation for a very old platform with little popularity could potentially have more merit; researching emulation for a very new platform shows you only want to be linked to the video game industry. Time is in no way a factor of merit except to show skill.

There are people as happy about SNES emulation as those who are about something new. There are also people who think games for the newest platforms were not released for play on those platforms but to emulate.

We were the ones gaming off of other peoples' work; we don't (have to) pay Jabo anything for it. Now he's the one that's gaming like he's not supposed to do since he signed a contract with us that he's enslaved to continually work.

This time from experience, Project64 has done over 25 percent removing the consideration of some emulators being based off of the work of others.

It's a shame. I was actually going to donate to get a copy of the beta version but that's not going to work. And, I have Vista SP1 and 1.6 didn't work - under any circumstances. It's worked previously though.

1.7 beta did work though - very nicely I might add.

Hey David, Can you go back to Windows XP and start work on separate Project 1.7 for XP and Vista right? So let us know. I heard many people are complaint on Vista. Stick with XP forever. smilies/wink.gif
